pagination

In short and in plain language

Pagination splits a long list into pages with numbers.

Each page loads only part of the list. That keeps it light.

But pages far back can cost the database more work than the first page.

Definition
Pagination splits a long list, such as products or search results, into numbered pages. Each page then usually has its own address and loads only its part of the list. This keeps each page light, but deep pages can put more load on the database than the first one.
